:: Ed Westwick Weighs in on Chuck :: January 20, 2008 ::

In last week's Gossip Girl, Chuck reached a new level of cruelty, shooting down Blair at the bar (Leighton Meester) as she was suffering the consequences of being the latest social outcast. In an interview with cwsourcetv.net, actor Ed Westwick shed some light on his alter-ego's devilish personality.

To be fair, Ed Westwick's Chuck wasn't always so harsh towards the brunette beauty, who he had pursued fervently despite the circumstances. Their relationship, although not exactly ideal, has become a drawing factor for many viewers.

“I think it kind of adds an interesting angle in regards to the whole Dan [Penn Badgley] and Serena [Blake Lively] thing,” Westwick said. “This triangle adds the kind of scandalous… element to the show,which is great. I think people kind of enjoy a scandal and they always say sex sells. I think the Nate/Chuck/Blair thing adds the more shady elements.”

That said, it's clear that things are no longer well between Chuck and Blair, and even Westwick is uncertain of the two characters' future as a couple.

“Everyone always says opposites attract, but they're similar kinds of personalities. I don't know – it's kind of one of those dangerous chemical reactions,” he said. “I think they're both young people; their personalities are kind of forming. When I was 17 or 18, I changed a great deal in a year. I think at that age you're still very impressionable, very easily influenced. Who knows, but they're both strong people.”

Last week's broadcast of Gossip Girl was the final pre-strike episode, which means fans will have to wait until the strike is over to watch new installments of Gossip Girl.

:: Blake Lively and Penn Badgley: Just Friends :: January 19, 2008 ::

They may be hot-and-heavy on their hit show, but Blake Lively swears there's no off-screen romance with her Gossip Girl castmate Penn Badgley.

Now that the show's a hit, "Everybody always tries to dig into your personal life or create things that aren't there...It's silly," Lively told PEOPLE at the Chanel Fine Jewelry event on Wednesday night. "Any male friend is obviously a 'romance alert' [for the media], but I've always been friends with boys my whole life."

(Penn also attended the event, arriving just after Lively.)

So how does she deal with the tabloid reports?

"[I] just try not to listen to what people say," the 20-year-old explained. "At least for me it's important – because I'm so close with my family and my friends – to keep core people around me that know the truth about everything."

The same goes for the rumor that the blonde beauty had plastic surgery shortly before Gossip Girl began.

"People just wanna talk," she sighed. "They wanna create negative things about you and your life and make up things. You can't let them affect you!"

:: Vanity Fair takes Blake Lively to couture :: January 19, 2008 ::

Celebrity attendees at next week's couture shows in Paris are beginning to confirm, and it looks like television actresses, looking to take advantage of their newly gained free time thanks to the writer's strike, will rule. At Chanel's diamond dinner at The Plaza Wednesday night, Ellen Pompeo said that she's most looking forward to the Armani Privé show on Monday, which she is attending exclusively. "I've never been to an Armani show, but I'm going as Giorgio Armani's guest and I think he's an incredibly elegant man," the Grey's Anatomy star said. Pompeo and her husband, Chris Ivery, will attend a post-show dinner at the Emporio Armani Caffé celebrating photographer Roger Moenk's new society coffee table book (whose cover Roberta Armani graces), but then it's off to their next adventure.

Further down the row amidst the suede banquettes and camellias, Gossip Girls star Blake Lively, surrounded by co-star Penn Badgley, Leslie Fremar, and David Neville and Gucci Westman, giggled in excitement over her upcoming Parisian adventure. Vanity Fair is taking the 20-year-old actress to the couture shows, after which she will be photographed for a fashion story for an upcoming issue. "I'm attending Chanel, Valentino, and Jean Paul Gaultier," Lively enthused of her first foray into high fashion. "It's going to be so exciting."
